What is an Enduring Power of Attorney and Why is it important?

An Enduring Power of Attorney is a formal document giving another person the authority to make decisions on your behalf. This means your life can keep going forward.

Personal matters

Personal decisions relate to your care and welfare, including your health care. Your attorney’s power to make personal decisions only commences when you lose the capacity to make these decisions.

Financial matters

Financial decisions relate to the management of your finances (e.g. paying your bills and taxes, selling or renting your home, using your income to pay for your needs or investing your money)

What happens if you don’t have an Enduring Power of Attorney?

If something happens to you, like you get in a car accident or a struck by a stoke, your family will find it difficult to keep on top of your financial maintenance.  This includes things like paying mortgages, bills and loans can be done with much more ease if there is a valid attorney appointed with the powers legally, to do these things.
